11th November 2007- Great Gable

An appropriate day to visit the summit, on the occasion of the annual remembrance service which this year fell on the 11th day of the 11th month. These photographs have hastily been uploaded on to the site for the benefit of those other hill-walker who I met on the route.

I took the easy route by parking at Honister Pass where even at 8am there were many cars and walkers.

The weather was poor to start hence the lack of early photographs, low cloud and rain turning to sleet on the summit where I arrived at about 9.45 and had a very cold wait which I did by the Westmorland cairn.

The mass of people on the summit at 10.45 and still gathering. Apparently up to 1000 would attend.

Shortly after the service the cloud began to clear, Pillar appearing in the distance.

Minutes later this was the scene near the Westmorland cairn.
