3rd May 2011 High Spy Ridge

This was a second and much more normal route of the day, starting off at Rosthwaite and heading up over Dale Head before a stride out over the High Spy ridge. A beautiful afternoon for it once again.

Grey Knotts

Grey Knotts and the Honister Pass road.

Castle Crag

Castle Crag from my crossing route up to Rigghead Quarries.

Butterwort and Sundew

Butterwort and Common Sundew. Not rare plants but interesting to see them in close proximity especially as they are both insect eaters, you can even see the trapped flies on the sticky green leaves of the Butterwort.

Langstrath

Across to Ullscarf.

Rigghead Quarry

Investigating Rigghead quarries, there are many level entrances here and all needed checking out so that I got the correct one for the drawing (this isnt it)

Blea Crag

Once on Blea Crag there is a fine view over Maiden Moor to Skiddaw

Maiden Moor

Maiden Moor summit, often bypassed by walkers and not even at the site which AW rated as the summit.

Catbells

Evening light on Catbells

zeta

Zeta takes in the evening sun.

Bailey

Bailey on look-out.

Narrow Moor

This was my route of ascent, down to Grange from Narrow Moor. No path here just a steep grassy slope as I headed towards Ellers.

Langstrath

Eagle Crag and Sergeant Man in the last light of the day.

Castle Crag

Having found my last two references of the day all that was left was to walk the route from Grange back to Rosthwaite. Usually this is a popular route but this evening I saw no other walkers, in fact since leaving Rosthwaite I had met just one walker just as I started the walk. The advantages of a late start.
