First light on High
Stile.

Buttermere
panorama. Haystacks on the left through to Hen Comb on the right.
From here I returned to
Buttermere to start my walk.

Dawn over Buttermere
village.

As we head to the
lakeshore path the early light strikes Mellbreak.

The shore path gave some
wonderful photo opportunities, the first mile of the walk took about an
hour.

High Crag and High
Stile.

Buttermere reflections.

High Stile.

Tunnel through the rock.

Across the frosted shore.

Where we were heading. Goat Gill is the
area in shadow and would lead us up on the right towards Robinson.

Haystacks.

The good weather had brought out the
photographers. (Is the collective name a "click")

The waters edge.

Mist on the water.

Leaving the shore we headed up to the
road.

and up though the path in Folders Wood.

it may have been a steep path but the
views were more than enough compensation.

Goat Gills and part of the reason for my
route today.

Climbing higher.

Down towards Buttermere village.

Once above the steep section the route
eases. AW's route suggests crossing here but I carried on straight up over
the wet but not too boggy ground.

Behind us Pillar now puts in an
appearance to the left.

I followed the old wall.

The Solway Firth blanketed in fog.

The wall took us up to near Hackney
Holes.

Dale Head over an icy pool. The day was
actually rather warm with hardly a breath of wind.

Hindscarth and Dale Head beyond
Littledale Edge. Our route was a diagonal line up to Hindscarth.

Skiddaw from Littledale Edge.

Hindscarth's big cairn and the Skiddaw
group from the actual summit.

The Scafells and Great Gable.

Pillar and the High Stile group.

The return route back to Littledale Edge.

Blencathra from the slopes of Robinson.

Robinson Summit.

The view from Robinson.

Grasmoor from Robinson.

Buttermere Moss.

Fell Hounds.

Descending to Buttermere from High Snockrigg.

Buttermere village, a few more cars than when we set off.

And soon we were back at the car with a
view back up to High Snockrigg.
It was only early aftenoon so we headed
off to do another short walk. Photos to follow shortly.
