15th May 2009 Binsey

At the start of a week in the Northern Fells region of the Lake District we took on these two short walks, the first being a simple stroll up to Binsey, one of the most northerly of all the Wainwright fells. This was the fell which we chose to do as part of the Lakeland 214 challenge raising funds for the Search and Rescue Dogs Association.

It was a dull day as we approached Binsey.

Binsey lodge, close to our walk start point.

A well defined and easy path up to the summit.

Binsey summit, a couple of cairns and a trig point  but not much view today. After a detour to West Crag we returned to the car via the same route. From here we headed round past Longlands to do another short walk.

Our next short walk was to take us up to Hay Gill.

Locals on the path.

It may not look like much to you but this is actually one of the references I needed for my project. an old mine level now collapsed.

and sheltering by the Dumpy Stone.

Before returning to the car near this farm. Not the greatest of walks but hopefully the weather would improve during our stay.
