It was a bit of an
overcast day as we left Longlands and headed on to the common.

There were patches of sun behind us
on Binsey.

We were now heading to Great Calva, at
this time just free of cloud.
The route from Knott to great calva
follows this path down into the col and up onto the ridge.
From the col to last pull up to the top
the path was really wet and slippy, this pool of peaty mud around the
stile was about a foot deep (Zeta found this out!) .

A short climb and we were up on Meal Fell summit.

We were heading up to the Great Sca Fell col, a route we had done before.
Instead of reaching the col we contoured across under the summit of Little
Sca Fell to pick up an old un-marked path on the fell side.

from the summit we made a direct descent to Longlands, you can make out
the faint path near the sheep on the left but its not a route marked in
the Pictorial Guides.
