Ullswater at first light.

Setting off from Bridgend
on a bright morning.

Slate bridge over
Coldcove Gill.

The sheepfold under
Latterhaw Crag with Angletarn Pikes behind.

Cascades on Coldcove
Gill.

Shortly I was
passing over Lord's Seat and a dense bank of cloud had come in from the
South. behind me the tops of Place Fell and Angletarn Pike were already
obscured. The ascent of this ridge was to provide me with at least one
reference but not today. It's not practical for me to walk just for the
sake of it and I couldn't see this cloud clearing in the next hour or so.
reluctantly I retreated to the car and hatched plan B.

Plan B involved
doing a selection of shorter low level routes in the Eastern Fells region.
I began with a quick ascent of Arnison Crag.

Arnison Crag summit. Since my last visit
two new cairns have appeared, neither are on the rocky platform on the
left which AW drew as his summit (but then its not the highest point
anyway.)

Hartsop and the Far Eastern Fells under a
blanket of cloud.

Bailey admires the view!

Ullswater from Arnison Crag.

Arnison Crag from the south. This
photograph was my only reason for re-visiting the fell. Whilst painting
the sketch of this view I convinced myself that my original reference was
wrong so I had to clarify my doubt. This time I was exactly right.

Mill Moss and Arnison Crag as I return to
the car at Patterdale.

Hartsop Dodd from the road to Kirkstone
Pass. Note that the road sign still reads Road Blocked which it obviously
isn't. No wonder people ignore the road signs when it is actually
blocked.

My next short walk was from Ambleside up
to Scandale. Here looking back down the lane.

The Coniston Fells.

Ahead is the High Pike Ridge with Dove
Crag still in cloud.

Walled Lane, Scandale.

Little Hart Crag as the cloud starts to
break.

High Pike from Scandale. Reference
achieved so I re-traced my route back down the lane.

Signs of Spring.

High Sweden Bridge.

Langdale Pikes from the lane.

Wansfell above the rooftops. next I was
to drive north getting a few references along the way.

Watson's Dodd from near Thirlmere.

Helvellyn Lower Man across Thirlmere.

Skiddaw group as we set off on our next
walk, a simple route onto High Rigg from St. John's in the Vale.

Clough Head from the ascent of High Rigg.

Summiteers on High Rigg

Blencathra from High Rigg. Back to the
car and then one last detour on my way home.

There was just time to stop off and have
a look at Place Fell from near Aira Force.

And a stroll down to Aira Force itself
before heading home after a productive day.
