From the campsite we
could see the route of our walk up Blencathra. We would be heading over
Gategill Fell, the heather-clad slopes on the right.
|
|

We parked at Threlkeld
and went through the woods of Blease Gill.

Heavy rain down to the
south of us.

Gategill ridge with the
summit of Blencathra almost in cloud.
|
|

By the time we reached
the summit we were in the cloud. Map and compass were needed to check the
route.
|
|

Only as we dropped down towards Mungrisdale
Common did we see the route ahead. The "summit" of the fell is actually on
the rounded horizon ahead not the distant outline.

Rain was fast approaching
as we neared Threlkeld and our start point. Luckily we just beat it.
