17th May 2009 Brae Fell round to Longlands Fell.

We had a route planned for the day that would take in five new fells for us in the northern-most area of these fells. we began the day by parking at the small village of Longlands.

Leaving Longlands on the moor road.

Two small "pointers".

Charleton Gill, now with its recently planted woodland enclosures.

Looking back down the valley with Longlands Fell on the left.

The summit of Brae Fell, Skiddaw behind. from here is was an easy route across to Little Sca Fell.

Little Sca Fell summit.

Great Sca Fell.

The route to  Knott was described by AW as "juicy"...it still is.

South-west from the summit of Knott with Great Calva and Lonscale Fell.

We had to take a longer route so that we could find these cairns on Burn Tod.

The descent from Burn Tod brought us to the gap in the fells know as Trusmadoor.

Looking up Burn Tod Gill to the Sca Fells

From Trusmadoor to Skiddaw.

Esther on the ascent of Meal Fell.

Meal Fell summit. We contoured from here to stay below Little Sca Fell.

Binsey in sun.

And on Longlands, our path leads down to the left and over Lowthwaite Hill, just our of the left of the picture.

The path up to Longlands, this neat track made by farmers on quad bikes more than walkers. Needless to say we didn't see many others on this route.

Longlands summit cairn.

Our descent of the hill and back to the village and the car. A very pleasant day on the hills and covering some new ground.

Sketches of some of these hills are already available on my project pages, click here to go to Book 5
