18th November 2009 Aira Force

There has been a lot of rain in the area recently so I thought that a short walk around Aira Force would be interesting. There was still rain in the air as we parked up.

Aira Force car park on the Dockray road.

There is still some autumn colours in the woods.

Even the small side streams were fast flowing.

The force through the trees.

Aira Force in full spate.

Standing on the lower bridge, the spray was as dense as rain.

This is the stream above the higher bridge, today a rushing torrent.

The higher bridge.

The gorge above the bridge.

Over the parapet down into the force.

Heading up the path to the car park.

A flaming Beech.

The road down to Ullswater.

Flooded Ullswater road.

Flood debris on the road.

Today the lake touches the road.

Not a very interesting route for a walk but the waters of Aira Force made it worthwhile.
