Castle Crag with low
cloud as I complete my first delivery.

Parking in Grange my
idea was to do a simple route up to the summit of Castle Crag.

Hard to put over what a
dull damp and overcast day it was. Here the River Derwent should be a
scene of later summer sunshine but not today.

Dalt Wood quarry.

Timber felling in
progress in the woods below the crag.

The well made path leads
to the col between Castle Crag and Low Scawdel.

The view back down to a
dull Derwentwater from the same point.

Now ascending the direct path to the
crag.

There is a steep section of slate but
fortunately the way is well used and a decent path leads through the
rubble. These two trees were my focus for this walk and the one reference
that I needed. Nice to see that the trees remain in place after 50 years.

The path snakes up through the slate
workings. The rain drops on the lenses give some idea of how poor the day
was.

The slate quarry. it seems now that the
done thing is to raise larger slates into the vertical by visitors to the
site.

Over the quarry to the summit mound.

The summit.

Photo pose on the summit.

Low cloud obscured any views from the top
today, normally a fine location to spend some time. For us it was straight
off and back to Grange.

Through the murk is the show ground for todays Borrowdale Shepherd's Show
at Rosthwaite, hopefully the weather will improve for the event.

Even the small ghylls have a run of
water.

The scree slopes below the Crag.

Heading back through the woods towards
the village.

The Derwent on its route north.
Soon we were back at the car, the dogs
enjoyed the run out and I even managed to pick off the reference that I
needed so well worth getting wet for.
