Millbeck, the start of
this route. From here we headed up to the old weir.

Skiddaw Little Man from the weir of Mill
Beck. It was now planned to ascent to Carlside via the slope to the left
which passed over Carlsledam.

The route was steep and pathless. if there
was a path the heather was disguising it.

Branthwaite and Coledale.

Higher up the heather was
thicker but the slope just as steep. Zeta can almost hear the "cussin' "

Skiddaw from
Carlsledam. Just at the bottom left of the highest patch of turf can be
seen the rocky outcrop of Fox Bield where I visited a few days ago.

The smile returns as we
reach Carl Side summit. Next on to Long Side, the fell behind.

Long Side and Ullock
Pike.

On the summit.

Rain either side of a
sunny Maiden Moor. Now on to Ullock Pike.

They beat me to the
summit.

Below lies Barf across
Bassenthwaite.

The view from Ullock
Pike. A drop down to the west from here would take us to the hanging
stone.

and there sat a very
co-operative Ring Ouzel. From here we headed "off-path" in the direction
of Dodd

With good glints of
evening light.

Light over the water.

The col below Dodd. We
would ascent the fell via the pass.

The 19th of the Northern
Fells covered this week. The team on Dodd.

The view of our descent.
Once we reach the bend in the road bottom left I would have to take the
fellside path up to White Stones and Esther followed the wall and we would
meet on the ridge.

Descent in evening light.
Sun on Latrigg as well.

Zeta keeps an eye on
Esther below us as we climb to White Stones.

Posing on White Stones.

Enjoying the evening sun
as we descent to Mill beck and the car.
A great walk to finish
what has been a great week-despite the weather. |
