Andy Beck - On Location

Route details and photographs of areas where Andy has been walking, sketching and gathering references for future work.

23rd- 28th September 2007. The Glen Affric area.

Camping at Cannich, the idea was to use this as a base to explore the three glens of Glen Affric, Glen Cannich and Glen Strathfarrar. The forecast was pretty reasonable for the week but this was Scotland in the Autumn!

24th September Glen Strathfarrar.

Todays plan was to achieve some of the Munroes in Glen Strathfarrar. Access to this glen is limited to certain times of the week and even though the weather didn't look promising we set off into the glen.

Glen Strathfarrar.
A bit of brightness on distant hills as we head into Glen Strathfarrar.

We walked up into Coire Mhuillidh heading towards Carn Nan Gobhar. It was now raining quite hard and the low cloud covered all the tops.

Behind us was a stalking party. We had checked with the Hillphones service earlier to ensure that we were not heading into an area where stalking was to take place today. The team headed into another minor glen from us.

Getting higher the weather closed in and got darker. The potential for a good days walking looked limited so reluctantly we decided to withdraw from the hill.

Looking down into the Glen we re-traced our route back to the car.

I dont like abandoning a days walking but today it looked like I had made the right decision, it continued to rain hard for the rest of the day. A short walk later in the evening near Affric Lodge and the rain can be seen almost obscuring Sgurr na Lapaich.
