24th. June 2009 Eagle Crag to Ullscarf.

The second walk of the day took me to a different area. I started this route in Stonethwaite with the intention of heading up just Eagle Crag and Sergeant's Crag but a slight change of plan extended my route.

Stonethwaite village at the start of the walk.

Sheepfold with Eagle Crag behind.

The easy path that leads up to Greenup.

Nearing Eagle Crag. The route I was to take heads up the bracken covered slope on the left and then finds its way through the rocky outcrops to reach the summit.

Looking back to Borrowdale as I gain height on the bracken covered slopes.

This easy gully has to be ascended, the wooden spans across the gully as described by AW have now gone.

Eagle Crag itself from where the fell gets its name.

A fine view of Langstrath from near the summit.

Zooming in on a distant Bowfell and the sun on Great Slab.

Eagle crag summit cairn perched neatly on the rock platform.

Tempting.

Tasty!

Sergeant's Crag, our next fell.

Looking back to Eagle Crag with Skiddaw away in the background.

and across to Honister Crag.

The summit cairn and the skyline mound of pike o'Stickle.

I was now heading onwards and upwards to High Raise.

Tarn below Long Crag.

Zeta makes full use of the facilities.

Long Crag.

Light on Sergeant's Crag and Eagle Crag with Bassenthwaite just coming into view.

High Raise with Crinkle Crags and Bowfell. From this point I was going to head down Langstrath via Stake Pass but changed my plans and headed for Ullscarf.

Ullscarf lies ahead over High White Stones.

Tarns on the approach to Ullscarf.

Great Gable past the summit cairn.

The focused hound as we contour round to Lining Crag.

Both of us seem to be going a bit grey!

The moraine field of Greenup

Sun on slopes of Ullscarf.

Looking down on Eagle Crag.

Looking back up to Lining Crag.

Stonethwaite Beck and Eagle Crag.

Summer evening sun near Stonethwaite as another good outing on the fells comes to an end.
