25th December 2007. Wild Boar Fell in the Howgills.

Christmas Day on the Howgills. The forecast wasn't brilliant, low cloud meant that a trip to the Lakes may have been fruitless. The Howgills are a range of hills that lie between Teesdale and the Lake District so we took this opportunity to visit them again.

The railway viaduct near Aisgill.

White Kirk Gill where we had a close encounter with a fox.

A murky day in Mallerstang.

Fell ponies in a patch of sun.

Angerholme Pots with The Nab in cloud.

Mallerstang and the limestone pavements.

Heading into cloud on the ridge to The Nab.

Hardly enough for skiing, but snow on Christmas Day!

The bitterly cold summit of Wild Boar Fell.

We were in low cloud for most of the day and I'm pleased with the few pictures that I was able to take. We crossed Swarth Fell before descending into Mallerstang. It didn't rain but we had a very light snow flurry as we descended into Mallerstang. We only saw 2 other couples out on the fells, after all it was Christmas day!

Cloud and sun on the far side of Mallerstang.
