Andy Beck - On Location

Route details and photographs of areas where Andy has been walking, sketching and gathering references for future work.

26th January 2010- The Trossachs' Ben A'n

As we had to be in Glasgow for the afternoon I planned to do another shorter walk out of the Scotland's 100 Best Walks book. At only 6km I reckoned that this route would give the dogs a good outing before our long day.

The murk of the weather shown in this view of Loch Achray.

From the car park there is a steep ascent up through the trees.

A tumbling burn provided added interest.

A view back to the loch.

There were limited photo opportunities in the forest as we followed the trail.

There the wood cleared and the summit came into view. It reminded me of Castle Crag in Borrowdale.

Climbing on upwards.

I'm sure that this would be a stunning view point of Loch Katrine in the right weather but today we were lucky to see even this.

Group photo on the summit.

Ben Venue and Loch Katrine from Ben A'n.

On the descent, Bailey keeps an eye out for Esther.

Winter woodland colours.

The popular path through the birch trees has undergone some re-construction work.

A slightly better view of Ben Venue from the woods before we return to the car.

We took a slight detour to Loch Katrine.

S.S. Walter Scott on Loch Katrine. No doubt a lot busier in the summer.

and as we head away we get a last look back at today's hill, Ben A'n.

and from the same spot a shot of Ben Venue, there for a better day.
