6th February 2009. Some wanderings and Wansfell.

To make the most of the snow cover on some of the fells I planned to have a day where I could obtain some references for my Wainwright project which would replicate the seasonal depictions in some of AW's drawings. It meant a bit of travelling but was an opportunity not to be missed.

I started the day at Glenridding where a short walk would take me up to Keldas and Lanty's Tarn.

Dollywagon Pike

Dollywagon Pike and Nethermost Pike from Grisedale. I had driven up here with the intention of climbing Birks, however, space for parking was limited so I didn't stay.

Dovedale

I headed up and over the Kirkstone Pass from where this photograph of Dovedale was taken.

Yoke

From the Kirkstone/Windermere road I was able to obtain more references like this view of Yoke.

Troutbeck and Ill Bell

Cottage in Troutbeck with Ill Bell behind.

Wansfell

An ascent of Wansfell is a fairly easy walk especially at the minute when the marshy ground is partly frozen.

Ill Bell Ridge

Froswick and Ill Bell from the easy climb to Wansfell.

Wansfell Summit

Lunch on Wansfell summit. Bright sun, no wind and fantastic views-perfect.

Langdale from Wansfell.

Caudale Moor

Caudale Moor on the right. Normally following the wall and the path would take you back to the road but I was to head down to the right to High Grove.

High Grove and Red Screes

The ruins of High Grove are in the trees.

Sheltering sheep at High Grove. from here it was a simple walk back to the car.

Kirkstone Pass

From where I drove home via the Kirkstone Pass, Place Fell in late afternoon sun. Not a great walking day but I achieved my objectives.
