14th July 2008- Cadair Berwyn.

Outside the Snowdonia National Park, Cadair Berwyn is quiet considering its height of 2,723'. We did this walk starting at the end of the road near the waterfall of Pistyll Rhaeadr.

A narrow road leads to the car park and and the facilities near the falls.

The early stages of the route takes you up out of the valley on a green track.

The summits of Cadair Berwyn and Moel Sych lie ahead, the path can be seen on the right.

Looking back down the valley as we gain height.

To this point the path is well defined but we were to head to the right here to reach the knoll on the right before heading up to the rocky outcrop of the south summit of Cadair Berwyn.

The thick heather made for hard walking.

Llyn Lluncaws lies under the escarpment of Moel Sych. The skyline ridge will be our route off the hill.

The ridge is reached after a fairly steep climb. The summit is seen up to the left of the picture.

A fly-past by a Hawk.

The summit rocks of Cadair Berwyn.

From Cadair Berwyn we were heading along the ridge to Moel Sych, seen here on the horizon.

The rocky outcrop of the summit breaks up the grassy plateau of these hills.

Looking back to Cadair Berwyn from our path to Moel Sych.

The summit cairn on Moel Sych at 2,713'.

The fence line is our route for the descent.

Dropping down into the valley.

The view looking east to the Shropshire hills.

The walk finishes at the falls of Pistyll Rhaeadr, at 240' (70m.) this is the highest waterfall in England or Wales.

The popular Tea-rooms at the falls.

We were staying at an excellent B&B in Glyn Ceiriog, a quiet valley not far from Oswestry. Fron Frys is dog friendly and a great place to stay. Click here to visit their website.

From the B&B its only a mile walk to this excellent pub, The Golden Pheasant where we enjoyed good food and a few drinks to finish off what was a great day on the Welsh Hills. Click here to visit their website.
