Andy Beck - On Location

Route details and photographs of areas where Andy has been walking, sketching and gathering references for future work.

This route was part of Andy's fascinating and unique project "The Wainwrights in Colour". Click here

18th May 2009 Great Calva

The route was planned so that I would get the references that I needed in the area of this fell. This then made a long and usual ascent of the hill. We began at the car park opposite Peter House.

The honesty box was already occupied.

The route to the head of the Dash Valley. Whilst Esther carried on this track I diverted down to view the falls.

Dash Falls, pretty full after recent rains.

Looking down to Binsey as we pick up the Skiddaw House track.

Skiddaw House ahead.

Esther "strikes a pose" for the new Berghaus catalogue?

Moody skies over Carrock Fell.

Passing the remote Skiddaw House.

Footbridge over the Caldew.

One of several round sheep-folds in the area.

The steep pull up to Great Calva.

A glint of sun in St John's in the Vale.

and on Mungrisdale Common.

Esther summits Great Calva.

and takes shelter from the strong wind.

Leaving Great Calva behind.

We descend down the quarried gully towards Burn Tod Gill.

Sun and showers on the slopes of Bakestall.

Lighting Dash Farm.

Dash Falls through an evening rainbow. Another fell off the list as we head back to the car.

Sketches of some of these hills are already available on my project pages, click here to go to Book 5
