19th. June 2009

An afternoon walk taking in some of the interesting features of Gowbarrow Fell. This time I was accompanied by Lindsay and Derek, fellow members of the Wainwright Society and of course "Beattie" Derek's Bedlington Terrier.

We waited for a heavy shower to pass before we set of from the quarry car park and headed down alongside Aira Beck.

Aira Force with perfect timing to catch the rainbow in the sunlight.

We followed the pleasant terrace path past this memorial seat near Yew Crag.

Yew Crag with a sunlit Hallin Fell behind.

last remains of the old Shooting Box. from here we headed up towards Great Meldrum which is in the direction of the conifer plantation on the right.

Cloud shadow on Little Mell Fell.

Gowbarrow summit with Great Mell Fell.

Lindsay, Derek and Beattie on a very windy summit. From here we descended towards Green Hill.

Ullswater from Green Hill.

High Force in Aira Beck. Not quite as impressive as the "real" High Force but still pretty good none the less. For here a simple walk back to the car. A relatively simple walk but in enjoyable company.
