19th. September 2008 Exploring Loughrigg.
Limited time this afternoon meant that I could only get a short walk in so after some business in Grasmere I headed up Loughrigg Fell. This popular hill is not very high but it can provide some excellent views of many of the Lake Districts fells.
From near Red Bank I walk through Deer Bolts Wood. |
The wall edging the wood has these rare through stones which support the fence posts.
Looking back to Silver How from the path to the fell top.
The top of Loughrigg Fell now only sports a trig point the cairn has long since gone. Langdale below.
Heading to Ivy Crag there are excellent views of Loughrigg Tarn, shame about the low cloud on the hills.
Enjoying being out on the fells.
Windermere from Ivy Crag.
Across a tarn to Low Pike in the distance.
Nab Scar and Rydal Water from the descent route.
The lower quarry.
The large quarry. The National Trust warning sign which obviously gets totally ignored, surely better to remove the unsightly fence and post a warning sign.
The quarry entrance.
Silver How from Loughrigg Terrace.
Across Grasmere to Helm Crag.
On returning to the car I drove round to Loughrigg Tarn where I was able to catch the only patch of sun on the fell all afternoon.
