2nd. August 2009 Hard Knott

It was to be a sort of odd day today involving quite a journey to pick off some of the distant references for the project. We didn't get to complete the walks that I had planned but a good day out was had none the less.

Our first port of call, Birks Bridge in the Duddon valley.

Summer meadows and Harter Fell from near Long House.

Harter Fell again from the Eel Tarn path above Christcliffe.

Eel Tarn.

Sun on a distant Kirk Fell.

and a close up dog.

Bowfell through swirling cloud. From here it was back to the car to reach  my next location.

Domestic bliss at Penny Hill Farm.

Next we were off to Hard Knott. A recent visit here had been frustrating due to low cloud so it was a short walk up from the top of Hard Knott Pass to get the view needed from the summit.

It was a much better day today with clear views over to the Scafell range.

Not ewe again!

Just what I was after, the summit cairn with the fells beyond.

Instead of returning directly to the car we went and had another look at the Eskdale Needle, a fine pinnacle of rock.

Not an exciting long walk today but a day where I obtained several reference that I needed so it was well worth the effort.

Hard Knott is a very special fell as far as the project is concerned- more news later. There are sketches already online of Hard Knott, to view, click here.
