24th. June 2009

A short morning walk heading up alongside Greenhead Beck to reach the summit of Stone Arthur. This was the first of two walks today.

Helm Crag from the road up by the Swan Hotel.

My route took me up alongside  Greenhead Beck.

From the ruin looking down the valley to the distant Coniston Fells.

It was a very warm day and the sound of the water was quite cooling.

And great for a swim.

Grasmere from the slopes of the fell.

A fine viewpoint.

Stone Arthur summit, a point frequently by-passed as walkers head up towards Great Rigg and Fairfield. from here we had the simple task of heading back down to Grasmere.

A pair of Wheatears, a juvenile on the left with the adult male on the right.

Watched from above.

Back to the gate at the head of the lane.

Stone Arthur from the park in Grasmere. After a  route that varies the straight up and down ascent of this lower fell.
