24th. August 2009 Green Crag and Harter Fell.

A vast improvement on the weather of yesterday meant that I was able to tick off these two fells in the Southern Region. This now "tidies up" Book 4 and the few remaining fells of the 214 to be completed are neatly in one area and should be achieved in the next week or two.

Doctor Bridge in Eskdale from where we started our ascent of Green Crag.

The old peat store above Birker, looking across to Scafell.

Gaining height the view back over to the Scafell range.

Wet ground on the approach to the fell.

The Pike on Crook Crag.

Boundary stone and Harter Fell.

The summit cairn, Green Crag.

Not a bad place to sit and have lunch.

Bowfell.

Back at the col, Zeta finds a tempting tarn.

Playtime.

From here I took a direct route towards Harter Fell. Due to the boggy ground its not really recognised as a main route.

August colours.

After the crossing of the marshy area I headed up the slopes of the fell. A look back shows the line of the path just above the trees.

From near the summit, a view across the Duddon valley to the Coniston Fells.

Trig point Harter Fell.

Looking back to the "official summit" from the actual summit.

The "fell hound"

Below us lies Hardknott Fort. After exploring the summit area we headed down off the fell.

Something catches her attention.

Concentration.

The path into the valley.

A fine afternoon to be in the hills. This path leads down towards Whahouse Bridge but I turned left here to head down to Penny Hill Farm.

Looking back to Harter Fell from AW's viewpoint as I near the end of the walk. Another two fells off the list but due for another visit in the future- well worth a return.
