25th December 2010. Howgills, Wild Boar Fell

As usual on Christmas Day we headed off to do a decent walk on what looked like a promising day weather-wise. Three years ago we did a route over Wild Boar Fell, one of the Howgill Fells just south of Kirby Stephen and not too far from home. On that occasion we had our views hampered by low cloud so lets hope that today would be more fruitful. This route is number 28 from Wainwright's Book, Walks on the Howgill Fells.

Dawn was just breaking as we headed down into Mallerstang.

Parking at the quarry near Aisgill the early sun was lighting the fell. It wasn't to last long though as there was a good cloud cover.

Mallerstang and snow

As we broke out of the cloud Mallerstang had patches of sun and snow.

Old Quarry Aisgill

A simple descent off the fell brought us out at the quarry where we parked the car. Impressive frozen waterfalls were worth a look.

Pendragon Castle

As we headed home we passed Pendragon Castle at the end of a good Christmas Day out on the hill.
