Andy Beck - On Location

Route details and photographs of areas where Andy has been walking, sketching and gathering references for future work.

26th May 2010. Arthur's Pike and Bonscale Pike

This afternoon I had time to take in a short walk before meeting up with my brother for the evening as he was on a fishing trip near Penrith. I used these few hours to re-visit a couple of the Far Eastern fells and to tick off one or two new references for the project. as you will see the weather wasn't brilliant for photographs.

Cottages at Mellguards, near Howtown where we began the walk.

Steel Knotts from the Howtown path.

Across Ullswater

Swarthbeck Gill

Above the Helton path stands this cairn, unmarked by AW in the guides.

Sheffield Pike and wisps of cloud

The beacon on Athur's Pike with rain beyond

Athur's Pike summit

Passing this sheepfold we take the left green path to the top of Bonscale Pike

The two towers of Bonscale Pike.

Moody skies over Ullswater.

Shafts of light on Place Fell. Unknown to me then, away to the west at about this time there had been four seperate occasions of walkers being struck by lightning, lucky without serious injury. Hence the weather conditions.

Descending to Howtown.

Fusedale from the descent.

Hallin Fell from very close to the point where AW obtained his reference for his PG drawing. To see my sketch for the project click here.

Then it was a short walk back to the car after a pleasant couple of hours out on the Far Eastern fells.
