28th February 2009. Haystacks.

Today was to be the day of the Wainwright Society's Memorial Service to celebrate the lives of Alfred and Betty Wainwright. Where more appropriate to do a walk then but up to the summit of Haystacks, A.W's favourite mountain.

Leaving the car at Gatesgarth Farm we took the path that leads into Warnscale Bottom. Haystacks ahead of us.

From Warnscale Bottom we were to take the path up to the right of the beck that goes under the crags.

As we gain height a view back shows sunshine on Rannerdale Knotts.

Now raining but still an impressive view .

The crags of Haystacks with Scarth Gap and High Crag in cloud.

The falls of Warnscale Beck.

The old quarry buildings on Green Crag.

Haystacks summit from the path above Green Crag.

Buttermere from Black Beck gully.

Low cloud and light rain on Innominate Tarn.

As we head on to the summit a view back to the tarn with today's swirling cloud.

The summit tarn on Haystacks providing the most photographic subject today.

Right location, wrong weather. This spot is to provide me with a view I need for my project but toady the distant hill is obscured, better weather next time.

Lower down, High Crag is almost cloud free.

Descending the path from Scarth Gap. Zoe is well camouflaged amongst the rocks.

Looking back to Warnscale Beck, our route of ascent.

The stepped north ridge of Fleetwith Pike from near Peggy's Bridge.

The poor weather made this end view of Fleetwith Pike even more interesting as we were nearing our start point at the farm. A fairly straight forward walk in not the best of conditions but very enjoyable none the less.
