Firstly I had to obtain a reference photograph from here, unfortunately the tree growth has now totally obscured the fell behind so I had to move upstream for a clear view.
Further up into Langdale I was lucky enough to grab the camera just in time to catch this sunlight on the Langdale Pikes, another reference in the bag.
Up near Blea Tarn, from where I had planned to walk, I could see that the cloud was now covering the summit of Bowfell thus making my outing fruitless. Not to be outdone, I headed homeward with the idea of doing a shorter walk which may at least throw up an opportunity or two of more references.
The west side of Thirlmere showing the still low water levels.
On seeing the sunlight across the valley (here on Castle Rock) I headed up for a quick assault of Raven Crag.
The shifting clouds were making some great light effects on the hills, here on Watson's Dodd.
and to the south Brown Cove Crags and Helvellyn Lower Man

Glimpses of the fells as we gain height through the trees.

The rolling slopes of the Dodds.
Below is High Bridgend.
Through the dark forest to Raven Crag.
Clough Head in the evening sunlight from the summit.
A panorama view from Raven Crag with the sunlight crossing the eastern fells.
Forestry remains and High Rigg.
Cloud over Helvellyn.
A last look at Watson's Dodd from the descent
As the clouds turn pink. Not the walk I had planned but still a great result. The fell Raven Crag in the Wainwrights in Colour project is now complete and can be viewed here. home | Back to Wainwright Book 3 | Back | The Lake District
