Causey Pike from Stonycroft. I took a short walk from
here to head up to Rowling End.

Little Town and Maiden Moor.

Causey Pike from Rowling End.

After Rowling End I drove to Newlands, stopping to get
this shot of Robinson on the way.

Scope End and Hindscarth. I walked from here along the
old road in the valley.

Sun on Dodd through the gap of the valley.

Hindscarth from the climbing hut.

Dale Head. My actual route would take me up on to the
grassy shelf of the hill on the top right. However before that I had to
head for the crag on the far left, Miner's Crag.

Spring light on a lone Larch.

The ravine of Far Tongue Gill on the other side of the
valley. The zig-zags on the left are where I am heading later.

The crags of High Spy with climbers just setting off on
a route. From here I descended alongside Newlands Beck.

The impressive falls of Newlands Beck.

This area was a source of several references of the old
mines. This one is rather different, a waterfall, a mine cutting and a
sheepfold all in one. A bit off track in anyone's book but will worth a
visit.

After the zig-zagged path I reached the old mine ruins.
High Spy in the distance.

As Wainwright notes, its easy to find rocks with the
rich green of Copper Malachite showing.

Gaining height over the Newlands Valley. This is a great
route to attain Dale Head. AW describes it as "a mountaineering must"
I agree.

Hindscarth as I reach the ridge. Far Tongue Gill bottom
right.

Dale Head summit cairn.

Looking back to Dale Head as I follow the Hindscarth
ridge.

Hindscarth summit, Great Gable's dome on the right.

Descending Scope End.

Robinson's craggy face.

The head of Newlands.

Newlands church in afternoon sun.

The lower levels of Goldscope mines.

Hindscarth sits behind a sunlit Scope End as I return to
the car.
It was still a pleasant afternoon so I headed up over
Newlands Hause to get a few more references and this was a perfect time to
call at Rannerdale.

The bluebells at Rannerdale.

Whiteless Pike. The flowers are just coming into full
bloom, well worth a visit in the next week or two. From here it was up and
over Whinlatter Pass.

Evening sun on the Skiddaw range. I don't normally head
onto the fells on a Sunday but the route I did today certainly avoided the
Bank Holiday weekend crowds.
