After leaving the car at the park on the Walna Scar road
I headed for the quarry road near Boo Tarn. I was to use this road to
investigate Bursting Stone quarry which I did for about an hour in the
rain and mist but to no avail, the cave I was looking for has now gone.
(see a later photo on this page.)

Boo Tarn and the Walna Scar road.

A rock cutting on the road.

The Cove, somewhere in here is my next objective.
Normally Dow Crag would form an impressive backdrop to this shot, not
today, the water on the path gives a good idea of the weather.

Two (or possibly three) wet dogs.

Goats Water and Goats Hause. As I grabbed a quick bite to eat the clouds
were beginning to lift.

Dow Crag reveals itself. These are the moments when
great painting ideas are formed.

Gaining height towards Goats Hause.

Harter Fell from above Goats Hause.

Looking to Brim Fell as we gained the ridge. The rain
was now freezing and encasing the rocks.

Approaching Old Man summit in almost a monochrome world.

The summit platform and cairn.

Brim Fell and Swirl How. From here I had two options,
head down towards Low Water on a steep and icy path or take the south
ridge back to Bursting Stone Quarry. I chose the latter.

A reasonably easy descent through the snow line brought
me on to the path above Bursting Stone Quarry. Due to the re-working since
A.W work Book 4, the cave I was looking for now lies under this heap.

Looking back uphill from a point near to the caves
location.

and back at the car where the hills were still "under
the weather".
