9.30 at Watendlath as we head up to the hills. Flat
light but dry.

As we ascend the High Tove path the view down to the
village, ours was the only car in the car park.

At the junction in the path we headed right towards Wythburn.

After a short time we left the path and took a direct
route east up to the ridge. Great Gable behind Esther.

High Tove with High Seat beyond from the top of Middle
Crag. The lack of heather on the left of the fence is due to the more
intensive sheep grazing.

from Middle Crag we took a direct route east towards the "Wainwright"
summit of Armboth Fell.( The recognised summit of the fell is the lump of
rock on the left). Normally this would be a no-go area due to the boggy
ground.

All areas of water were rock solid making the going
easy, and dry.

Looking towards the true fell summit from AW's summit.

Esther and the dogs on the top, Raven Crag behind with
Blencathra as a backdrop.

"The Team" on AF.

"out of Bounds" in normal conditions we headed directly
north east to High Tove.

Other walkers take five on High Tove with Helvellyn
behind. Since I visited here last, someone has added a stake to the cairn
as in High Tove 2, however I will not be adjusting my already completed
painting.

As we headed east off the fell over the frozen moor,
Ullscarf to the south.

The sun was starting to make an appearance.

Winter grasses and Great Gable. We had now left the path
and were heading to Goat Crag.

The north-western fells over frozen moss.

Reecastle Crag on the right from Goat Crag.

Watendlath from near Goat Crag.

Watendlath bridge in winter sun, shame about the
Leylandii! We left the village and headed down towards Ashness bridge.

Catbells from Surprise View.

and Skiddaw from the same viewpoint.

Ashness Bridge. We had lunch here before heading off on
the second walk of the day.
