4th. January 2009. High Seat, Bleaberry Fell and Walla Crag.

Our second walk of the day, this time setting off from Ashness bridge. The day had become brighter and we were hopefully in for a good afternoon walk.

One of a small herd of Belted Galloway cattle as we headed up to Ashness Gill.

Blue winter sky over Derwentwater.

and sun on the north western fells.

Ashness Falls were encased in ice. This photograph is at the very head of the falls.

Afternoon sun on a cairn near Dodd.

The path to High Seat was treacherous in places being completely covered in sheet ice.

Even though the temperature was below freezing the lack of wind meant it was perfect walking conditions.

Golden light on High Seat.

The summit of High Seat over to the Helvellyn range.

Bleaberry Fell lies ahead.

Once again the crossing of boggy ground made easier by the conditions.

Zeta never tires of "hunting".

Clough Head from the approach to Bleaberry Fell's summit.

The summit cairn has transformed into a shelter.

Right place, right time.

As the light fades we descend the fell and head towards Walla Crag.

Looking back to Bleaberry Fell from Walla Crag summit.

Just enough light on Derwentwater before heading down past Falcon Crag to the car. Almost a perfect day........

.........and finished off with fish and chips in Keswick. Well it was my birthday after all!
