Orrest Head Today marked the exact day of the 80th anniversary of Alfred Wainwrights first visit to The Lake District on the 7th June 1930. To celebrate this occasion the Wainwright Society had organised a day to retrace AW's trip from his home town, Blackburn, using period transport and then to take the walk up to Orrest Head.

Team photo for the film camera. We had been joined on Orrest Head by yougsters from the local Prep School who are in an after school Fell walking club and they have a good insight to the work of AW. A joy to have such a wide range of ages represented on this event.
A few short speeches followed. John gives his "sermon on the mount".
The audience listens.
David in 1930's style.
A mixed crowd.
Jane King says a few words.

Laid on was an excellent afternoon tea which was most welcome. It was a grand finish to a memorable day.
