7th June 2010. Orrest Head

Today marked the exact day of the 80th anniversary of Alfred Wainwrights first visit to The Lake District on the 7th June 1930. To celebrate this occasion the Wainwright Society had organised a day to retrace AW's trip from his home town, Blackburn, using period transport and then to take the walk up to Orrest Head.

Orrest Head

Superb views right through to Great Gable. 80 years ago this afternoon, AW stood here and took in this same view, possibly in the same weather whilst his cousin slept on the warm grass.

Team photo

Team photo for the film camera. We had been joined on Orrest Head by yougsters from the local Prep School who are in an after school Fell walking club and they have a good insight to the work of AW. A joy to have such a wide range of ages represented on this event.
