12th. January 2010. God's Bridge

This walk was to head west from Gilmonby village near Bowes and head towards "God's Bridge", a natural limestone arch over the river Greta and also to visit the frozen bank which looked so spectacular last year.

Icicles at Bowes.

Icicles, even more impressive than 2009.

Icicles in Teesdale

This year the river has a good solid cover of ice making it relatively easy to go and give the feature a sense of scale.

God's Bridge, Pennine Way.

God's Bridge. This is now fairly unrecognisable due to the amount of snow but it has been crossed by thousands of feet as it forms part of the Pennine way route.

God's Bridge, winter.

The bridge from upstream, the stream passes under the arch which is now frozen over.

A66 snow plough.

On the nearby A66 the snow ploughs are busy, the road has been shut for four days so far. (Apologies for the quality, photo taken on full zoom through snow!)

My return route was back the same way.
