God's Bridge
This walk was to head west from Gilmonby
village near Bowes and head towards "God's Bridge", a natural limestone arch
over the river Greta and also to visit the frozen bank which looked so
spectacular last year.
Have you seen the new
Greeting Card Range?.
All was white.
The stream shows the depth of the snow.
Footbridge over the snow covered river.
Approaching the frozen bank.
Icicles, even more impressive than 2009.
This year the river has a good solid cover of ice making it relatively
easy to go and give the feature a sense of scale.
From another angle.
Heading towards East Mellwaters.
Monochrome copse of trees.
Dog in the lane.
Lime Kiln near God's Bridge.
The second Lime Kiln.
God's Bridge. This is now fairly unrecognisable due to
the amount of snow but it has been crossed by thousands of feet as it
forms part of the Pennine way route.
The bridge from upstream, the stream passes under the
arch which is now frozen over.
On the nearby A66 the snow ploughs are busy, the road
has been shut for four days so far. (Apologies for the quality, photo
taken on full zoom through snow!)
My return route was back the same way.
The sheep show interest in Zeta but fortunately she has
no interest in them!
Sheep at the feeder, there's nearly always one who gets
on the top!
watch the short video of zeta enjoying the deep snow.
