7th August 2008- Bowes and Gilmonby.

The hamlet of Gilmonby lies on the other side of the river Greta to Bowes. Here is just a few photographs of both locations.

Gilmonby consists of a few dwellings and farms.

Formerly one of the famous "Yorkshire" schools, Bowes Hall is the most imposing dwelling in the village.

The main street in Bowes was previously the main trans-Pennine route, now superseded by the A66.

The Ancient Unicorn Inn was the coaching stop off for travellers.

St. Giles's church, Bowes.

Bowes Castle is located on the site of a Roman Fort.

From within the walls a view to Gilmonby fields.

Dotheboy's Hall was made famous by Charles Dickens who wrote about it in Nicholas Nickleby.

The gardens of the Hall.

Bowes Castle and a Roe deer from Gilmonby.
