10th July 2008- Greta Bridge and Brignall Old Church.

Just off the main A66 cross Pennine route lies the small hamlet of Greta Bridge. Once a popular stopping off point for coach travellers the village is now a much quieter place.

The old route of the A66 is now a quiet back lane.

The Morritt Arms Hotel. Once a busy resting place for travellers such as Charles Dickens, J.M.W. Turner and J.S.Cotman. This hotel is now a popular location for wedding parties.

Across the old bridge stands the Coach House.

The architecture reflects the coaching history of the building.

Along the banks of the river Greta a path leads up to Brignall Old Church. From near this location Turner produced a watercolour painting of the church.

The churchyard has headstones dating back to before 1699.

Rokeby Hall is located on the other side of the A66 from Greta Bridge.
