Woden Croft, now a private residence with holiday
cottage attached was once another of the famous Yorkshire Schools on which
Dickens based Nicolas Nickleby.

Descending through wood the path reaches the banks of
the Tees.

The rocky hollows in the bank here are know locally as
The Fairy Cupboards and were quite a visitor attraction in days gone by.
there was too much water in the river to get the best view.

Parish boundary markers between Hunderthwaite and
Romaldkirk.

The way now passes this derelict farm of Low Garth. It
stands in a great location and would make a fine house.

Complete with it's own pig pen..

Looking back down to the farm as I continue to
Romaldkirk.

The wooded lane that leads to the village.

Romaldkirk village green and the Rose and Crown.

The village church.

Romaldkirk's other pub, The Kirk Inn where A Wainwright
stayed for a night whilst on his Pennine Journey in September 1938.

As the snowdrops die back the daffodils are about to
burst into life.

Leaving Romaldkirk behind us we cross over the beck en
route to Eggleston Bridge.

Passing through more fields towards Eggleston Bridge. On the far bank is
Eggleston Hall not only has it got a fine walled garden open to the public
but the hal is used for the location for filming the reality show "Ladette
to lady" (amazing what goes on in Teesdale!)

The old cricket pavilion is passed after crossing over
the bridge and turning right.

At the end of the tarmac lane is this structure an
outflow into the Tees the other end of which begins at Kielder some miles
to the north.

A steep climb up through Great Wood.

East Barnley Farm and a distant Uper Teesdale.

The sheep feeding on Winter Beet. On the skyline is the
distictive tops of Goldsborough (where we were last week)and
Shacklesborough.

Following the path through the woods we descend down to
the riverside and meet up with the Teesdale Way before crossing the
Cotherstone Bridge.

On crossong the bridge the broad river passes
underneath. its only a shiort walk from here back to the start.

The advantage to this walk is that there is plenty of
opportunity for refreshment including here at the Fox and Hounds at
Cotherstone.

This walk is featured in this book which we stock here in the gallery.
