Before long we passed through an area of private land
that is the course used by
Deepdale Off-Road
a 4x4 driving route..

At this point the beck has to be crossed, there used to
be some decent stepping stones but these have shifted. There was only one
course of action and that was to wade through barefoot as the streem was
shin deep in parts.

The wetland section of the wood.

Signs of Spring with the Wild Garlic sprouting.

and the first show that I have seen this year of
primroses.

as well as other spring flowers such as these Wood
Anemones.

Rising out of the wood we pass under the parapet of the
old railway viaduct..

Signs of the old railway line are clearly visiable near
Cat Castle Quarry.

On route to Lartington the path passes through several
fields.

Lartington village, a small hamlet of houses.

The cemetery of the Lartington Estate..

To the right sits Lartington Hall as we walk towards
Pecknell farm.

Further on we pass close to Towler Hill Farm.

Just past the farm I took a look at the old railway viaduct, this is the
view that passengers would have had of the town.

The gap across the river to the other viaduct buttress.

.

A look back along the track as we near the town.

This is the footbridge that we would normally use, it
has been closed for maintenance for some time but since this photograph
was taken it has re-opened.

I returned to the start by crossing the County Bridge,
in the past Yorkshire was the left bank and Durham on the right.
And another pleasant way to spend a couple of hours
exploring the aspects of Teesdale.
