Gallery Home >Wainwrights in Colour >Book 3 (Central) > Armboth Fell Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour. The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch. All images are the copyright of the artist. To obtain these references has required 3 days of walking: 14/11/07, 4/3/08, 4/1/09 (click on the dates to see the photos) Armboth Fell 1570' approx
From Fisher Crag. 14/11/07. In the intervening years the conifers on the left have gone and there is now a lone example on the left. Hardly a brilliant composition but true to the idea of how the scene has changed. The different lighting gives a better shape to the fell.
A Balanced Boulder. 14/11/07 De-forestation has made this view much lighter but this impressive boulder still stands.
The Summit. 14/11/07 The small cairn has gone, possibly due to the idea that the actual summit is 200m to the North East.
The Shepherd's Cairn. 14/11/07 The cairn has now gone off this shaped rock. Ullscarf is the distant skyline.
Waterfalls in Launchy Gill. 4/03/08 Winter was the best time to view these falls due to the tree growth. Some rockfalls had made only a slight difference to both scenes.
View from Fisher Crag. 4/03/08 Thirlmere has been partially obscured by a Larch since A.W's day. It was only a sapling when he saw this view. This Fell is now complete. back to Book 3 | back to Wainwright main page | back to gallery home page |
