Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

To obtain these references has required 3 days of walking: 18/9/07, 30/6/09, 16/3/10 (click on the dates to see the photos)

Arnison Crag 1

Arnison Crag from Keldas. 30/6/09

This view is not from the actual summit of Keldas but from a point on its southern slopes where one of the three Scot's Pine trees drawn by AW still stands.

The summit. 18/9/07

The small cairn on the rock platform as shown by AW has now gone.

Arnison Crag 3b

The lower cairn 18/9/07

The few rocks that formed the lower cairn are now scattered.

Arnison Crag 3c

The summit from the south. 18/9/07

I have not been convinced that this sketch is accurate so on 16/3/10 I returned to the scene and obtained the more precise photograph to produce the sketch below which will replace this other sketch.

Arnison Crag 3cb

The summit from the south. 16/3/10

This is the new version of the above sketch, this time taken from the correct location.

Arnison Crag 4

Ullswater. 18/9/07

Unlike A.W. who tended to leave out some background fells to simplify his drawings here I have included Great Mell Fell and Gowbarrow in the distance.

Fell Complete.
