Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

Black Fell from Tarn Hows

Black Fell from Tarn Hows.

I have included the background fells which AW omitted from his drawing. In the intervening years the trees on Iron Keld have grown and consequently been felled making the hillside covered in a similar amount of forestry as when AW saw it.

A triangulation column at the highest point has a National Trust plaque "Black Crag", the name given to the rocky outcrop on which it stands.

Black Fell South east cairn

Having undergone some restoration since the late'50s, the cairn now has a more fuller shape.

Fell complete.
