Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

To obtain these references has so far required 2 days of walking: 03/9/07, 1/12/08 (click on the dates to see the photos)

Brim Fell cairn

The north-east cairn. 3/9/07

Brim Fell's rounded top probably has more cairns than any other fell. This one is larger than most with a view north to Swirl How.

Brim Fell summit

The Summit. 3/9/08

There are two cairns in close proximity on the summit, a tumbled pile of rocks lies directly behind this very neat cairn which is the one I chose to paint. By pure fluke a lone Herdwick sheep was grazing the cropped turf in roughly the same place as AW drew a sheep in his illustration so he has been included in my sketch.
