Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour. Gallery Home >Wainwrights in Colour >Book 7 (Western) > Buckbarrow The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch. All images are the copyright of the artist. To obtain these references has required 1 day of walking: 10/11/08 (click on the dates to see the photos) Buckbarrow 1410'
Buckbarrow from Harrow Head. 10/11/08 The mid-distance is now filled with trees and the foreground wall has gained a large gate but the large pine on the right still stands as it did in AW's drawing.
The summit. 10/11/08 The platform of rock that forms the highest point now has a small cairn. Away in the distance, Calder Hall which was indicated in the original drawing is now Sellafield.
The cairn on Glade How. 10/11/08 This neat construction remains virtually the same with the Scafells behind.
A perched and split boulder. 10/11/08 Not on a main path but also not difficult to locate, this boulder is just as AW saw it.
Buckbarrow from Greendale. 8/11/08 Fine Crags over the bracken and scree slopes. Fell complete.
