All images are the copyright of the artist. To obtain these references has required 3 days of walking: 10/11/08 , 23/2/10, 14/09/11(click on the dates to see the photos) Caw Fell 2288'
From Lank Rigg. 14/9/11 It took two visit to Lank Rigg to obtain this reference, the first time it was obscured by low cloud and on the second time it was nearly the same result but the cloud just lifted enough for me to get the information that I needed. Even so, there was just a hint of cloud clinging to the the top. this viewpoint is not actually from Lank Rigg summit but from a point on the eastern slopes at about 1500'.
From Ennerdale. 23/2/10 A long drive round to Ennerdale to obtain this view on a cold February day.
Water intake Works, Worm Gill. 5/11/08 This small building was quicker to sketch than to get too, however as another view of these works also appear in the Lank Rigg chapter it was a worthwhile visit.
A Tumulus. 6/11/08 These three sketches of "Antiquities of Stockdale Moor" were difficult to locate, the area being well populated with piles of stones and folds. I'm pretty certain that the ones that I have drawn are those illustrated by AW but the passing of time and his lack of background detail means that there is a slight chance I may be wrong.
A cairn. 6/11/08
An enclosure. 6/11/08 This scattering of stones was the nearest that I could get to AW's drawing, stock, farmers and even walkers may have been responsible for moving the stones in the intervening period.
Sergeant Ford. 6/11/08 It is remarkable that after all this time that most of the stepping stones drawn by AW are still there and identifiable.
The summit. 11/11/08 The summit of the fell was cloaked in low cloud on this day. Fortunately the view of the cairn was all that was required, perhaps the weather was the same on AW's visit. The stones of the cairn are mainly of a very rich red in colour.
Little Gowder Crag. 8/11/08 Much of the boundary wall was gone on my visit in 2008 but there are moves to restore it, it may have even been done by now. Fell Complete.
