Gallery Home >Wainwrights in Colour >Book 3 (Central) > Eagle Crag Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour. The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch. All images are the copyright of the artist. To obtain these references has required 2 days of walking: 9/1/08, 24/6/09 (click on the dates to see the photos) Eagle Crag 1706'
From Stonethwaite Beck. 24/6/09 The river course has changed over the past 50 years and the growth of the conifer plantation obscures some of the fell. These factors made finding this location testing. However, thanks to the lone Pine tree on the very left of the sketch I was able to confirm that I was indeed standing on the right spot.
The Summit. 24/6/09 The observant will notice that this is the second version of this view. Previously I wasn't convinced that I was standing in the right place for the painting. A return visit in June meant that I was able to obtain this more accurate aspect of this fine view down into Borrowdale.
Fell complete.
