Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

To obtain these references has required 2 days of walking: 5/11/08, 31/5/09 (click on the dates to see the photos)

Fellbarrow Hatteringill

Ruins of Hatteringill 4/11/08

In the 50 years since the pictorial guide sketch, the ruins have collapsed almost totally leaving a pile of rubble in the formation of the building.

Fellbarrow summit

The Summit 4/11/08

The north-western fells including Grasmoor form the distant skyline behind the summit trig point. The fence posts have been renewed.

Fellbarrow 7b

Ring of stones. 4/11/08

Wainwright writes: "60 yards west, a collection of stones arranged in a ring: it has no special significance and no history." Of course by the very fact that he drew the ring and included it in his guide means that to me it now does have some significance.

more sketches to follow shortly.
