The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch. All images are the copyright of the artist. To obtain these references has required 3 days of walking: 11/11/07, 10/9/09 21/6/10 (click on the dates to see the photos) Fleetwith Pike 2126'
Fleetwith Pike from Gatesgarth. 10/9/09 The trees are now larger but fortunately they dont dominate the scene too much. The grassy patch in AW's drawing is now a well used car park not often empty as seen here.
The Buttermere valley. 11/11/07 A fine view along the valley from the north east ridge.
Honister Crag 22/6/10 The view from the northern side of Honister Pass with a glimpse of Crummockwater in the distance.
The Drum House. 11/11/07 Now slightly more flat than in AW's drawing, the site of the old drum house with Dale Head behind.
The White Cross. 10/9/09 The memorial cross to Fanny Mercer, sited just to the side of the path on the west ridge.
The summit. 11/11/08 Fell complete.
