Gallery Home >Wainwrights in Colour >Book 1 (Eastern) > Glenridding Dodd Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour. The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch. All images are the copyright of the artist. To obtain these references has required 1 day of walking so far: 14/10/08, (click on the dates to see the photos) Glenridding Dodd 1425' approx.
Glenridding Dodd 14/10/08 Seen from across Ullswater Sheffield Pike stands above Glenridding Dodd. The large conifer on the right pinpoints the location for Wainwright's drawing.
Stybarrow Crag 14/10/08 Alongside the main Pooley Bridge, Glenridding road this is one of the most risky locations for any sketch, traffic has greatly increased since AW's time.
Looking down on Glenridding. 14/10/08 The village has grown somewhat since the early fifties.
Ullswater and Birk Fell. 14/10/08 The impressive view of Ullswater to the north of the fell. It was a very hazy day when I obtained this reference, hence the more subtle colour.
