Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

To obtain these references has required 2 days of walking: 23/7/08, 7/3/10  (click on the dates to see the photos)

The hut 7/3/10

Now all that remains of this small shelter is the first few layers of the walls but the tree to one side still stands. Sadly this illustration has been removed in the new revised editions of the Pictorial Guides. The route that AW drew as passing right by this hut has now fallen into disuse but why leave an empty space in the new versions?

Grange Fell, Jopplety How

Jopplety How 23/7/08

This rocky outcrop near the summit of the fell has gained a fuller heather coat.

Yet another summit that has lost its cairn in the intervening years since A.W. drew it.

Grange Fell 6b

Kings How summit. 7/3/10

This is the more northerly of the two cairns on the summit of Kings How which is not quite as high as it once was.
