Andy Beck- The Wainwrights in colour.

The sketches shown here are the images that I have so far produced for this "Wainwright". The views are taken from the exact spot where A.W. stood to illustrate his seven pictorial guides. The comparative views are mainly different due to the time of day, weather conditions and seasonal differences. The originals of my sketches are approximately twice as wide and twice as high as A.W's pen and ink drawings. I have added notes to give more information to each sketch.

All images are the copyright of the artist.

To obtain these references has required 2 days of walking: 2/8/09, 24/8/09,  (click on the dates to see the photos)

Green Crag                                                     1602'

Green Crag 1a

From Birker Fell. 2/8/09

Light on the rough outline of the fell. Behind is the outline of Harter Fell, something that AW omitted from his drawing, possibly not wanting to detract from the featured hill.

green crag from Boot

From Boot. 2/8/09

I must have not been concentrating when looking for this reference as initially I went up to near Eel Tarn but once there realised I was too far north. A second short walk out of Boot village got me to the correct location.

Green crag from Eskdale

Approach from Eskdale. 24/08/09

On the path close to Tarn Crag this scene comes into view not long after passing the peat hut.

Green Crag peat hut.

Low Birker Peat Hut. 24/8/09

Sadly the hut has lost its roof but the walls still stand firm.

Green Crag summit

The Summit. 24/8/09

The cairn remains fairly small, I have included the backdrop of the Scafells.

Fell complete.
