To obtain these references has required 4 days of walking: 11/11/07, 17/4/09 18/3/11 3/5/11(click on the dates to see the photos) Grey Knotts 2287'
From High Doat. 3/5/11 Possibly the most unusual composition for any of the fell main illustrations. The aerial featured in the original drawing has been superseded by a taller version and it is located in a slightly different place. To have stood exactly where AW stood would have meant that the new aerial would have only partly come into the view which looked extremely odd so I have taken the option of moving slightly to the right to include it in full.
Hause Gill. 10/9/09 Now the trees have grown so much as to almost obscure the small falls in the gill.
Raven Crag. 17/4/09 Late evening light behind Raven Crag.
The John Bankes memorial stone. 17/4/09 This lichen covered slate stone still stands in the vicinity of the old Plumbago Mines. Time is fading the inscription and a flake of the slate has fallen from the top right of the memorial taking some of the detail with it.
Plumbago Mine Level. 17/4/09 There are several locations hereabouts which could be mistaken for A.W's original sketch location. Close to a fenced off mine shaft is this cut in the ground which on closer inspection revealed a collapsed mine entrance. It's position in relation to Wainwright's drawing and map means that I am happy that this is the correct corresponding view.
Benchmark. 10/9/09
The rock cutting 11/11/07 Part of the route between Honister and the drum house.
From the Drum House. 11/11/07
The Summit. 17/04/09
The west summit from the east summit. 17/4/09 The warm light of a late evening visit to this summit. Pillar in silhouette to the right of the rocky tor.
The east summit. 17/4/09 Looking towards Glaramara past the small summit cairn.
Gillercomb and Raven Crag. 17/4/09 A view across Gillercomb from the lower slopes of Base Brown.
Fell complete.
